Handmade Mexican Paper | Amate | Weave | SEVEN COLOURS

In stock! Usually ships within 24 hours.

Amate paper is handmade by artisans from the Puebla mountains in Mexico.  It is made from a combination of the bark of the amate wild fig tree, the nettle tree and the mulberry tree. To make the paper, the bark is washed then boiled in a solution of lime juice for many hours. After boiling, the strips of bark are beaten until the desired texture is achieved and then dried in the sun.

Each sheet is unique and one side is more textured than the other.
